Dunn, Wright and Parker actually managed to get up before everyone else in the groups this morning – they were off to the train station for ‘emergency tickets’ to Goa. The rest of us got going at 8.00am and met them over there. Success, so everyone was sorted for tickets – phewf!
We were greeted by Jai with cries of ‘come on, come ON – the carpenters have already got going and they’re waiting for you!’ We duly obliged and rushed over to the house site. The chippies were indeed there, as were about twenty other randoms, and now us. We proceeded to do…nothing. The house beam fittings were a very ‘technical’ job, apparently; we were without such skills, so were forced to wait. Just as well we rushed then. After a well earned tea break we sat around a bit more, before eventually managing to do something by moving some roofing tiles around. Needless to say, lunch was a long time coming!
After lunch we returned to the site, and activity was only marginally more coming. We did move some roof timbers around for a bit (well, three of us did). The rest took photos, sat around and generally chatted. Just before we left we did manage to make a small chain and hand up twenty or so roofing tiles to the very giggly head carpenter, who laid them. It was all just starting to take shape, and we were feeling valued, when Jai called time and we all had to head back for tea and yet more dance practice... The slowest of days yet finished with a lot of hotel-based lounging around. We’re now pretty much finished with the house. Tomorrow is a media-based day and we’ll be performing the dance for real. Gulp!
